Principal's Message

I would like to first and foremost introduce myself and welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Mr. Wesley Marshall and it is with great pleasure and an honor to announce that I will be serving as the new principal at MLKTA.  As a product of the surrounding community, having graduated from Grant Union High School as well as having attended MLKTA formerly known as Norte Jr. High School as a middle school student, I am excited to assume this role.  I have also proudly served as the Vice Principal at Grant Union High School for the past 14 years so again, I am excited to remain in the community serving our kids and families.

I look forward to us having a partnership in ensuring that our kids have a fulfilling educational experience that will allow them the best opportunity to advance in their academic growth.  As you may know, we will not have the traditional opening to our school year this fall as we have all grown accustomed to in prior years.

Please see the following details below based on our district’s priorities in conjunction with the Sacramento County Department of Health:
  • Keeping our students and staff safe is our main priority.
  • Based on the latest public health information—Covid-19 continues to be a challenge and poses health risks with positive cases increasing throughout the state, including Sacramento County. Therefore, we are starting the 2020-2021 school year in an online/virtual teaching and learning environment (Distance Learning) with no in-person classes being held until further notice.
  • The instructional staff at MLKTA is taking the necessary steps for the sake of delivering quality instruction to our students.
  • Our MLKTA Team will continue to follow the leadership of our district management in adhering to the guidelines they have set forth which includes ongoing preparation to roll out a plan to return to in-class learning when we are confident that we can fully execute strategies to ensure public health.

Organized and Prepared with Student Planners:
All students at MLKTA will be issued student planners on Material Distribution days.  We want to support our students in being Organized and Prepared as they continue to ROAR in their quest of being superstars in their academic achievement. This not only aligns with our AVID program, which focuses on organization, but also teaches them an invaluable life skill of preparedness. Every day all students will be utilizing their planners, even in a virtual setting, to carry out tasks such as writing down essential questions, tracking their assignments as well as managing their calendars in their planners for each class.  We encourage our parent partners to stay connected with your scholar’s educational process by reinforcing organization that is bound to support learning.

Immunizations
All students are required to have current immunizations.  New regulations that started July 1, 2019, require both a Tdap booster and a second varicella (chickenpox) vaccine for those entering seventh grade. For more information, visit www.shotsforschool.org or click on the Immunization Banner on the District’s website at www.twinriversusd.org

I am looking forward to a prosperous and productive school year with all of our students demonstrating growth and academic success and you have our commitment and full support at MLKTA in doing everything possible to make this notion a reality.

Respectfully,

Wesley Marshall
